This 2020 report and action plan was created to gather data and input to inform state and federal policymakers about how to optimize the use of telehealth. The Covid-19 pandemic showed the importance of investing in internet infrastructure to enable access to telehealth. This report argues that the digital divide has become a "digital cliff" where residents fall into deeper poverty and greater isolation. It focuses on the status of telehealth in California, gaps and barriers to optimizing telehealth, and the development of an action plan to advance telehealth policy and funding.
An August 2020 news story about several digital inclusion initiatives in Louisville, Kentucky, focusing on a plan to double the amount of free Wi-Fi in the Russell neighborhood through the addition of approximately 30 access points. Published in March 2016, this report looks at data from the National Broadband Map to examine the broadband speeds in health care facilities in metropolitan and nonmetropolitan counties across the United States. The study found that 55 percent of facilities in metro areas had download speeds of more than 50 Mbps, compared with 12 percent of nonmetro facilities.
The Nevada State Broadband Connectivity Strategy is a strategic plan for Nevada to deploy additional broadband infrastructure and close the digital divide. The chief recommendations for reaching the state’s goal of universal broadband access focus on supporting disadvantaged communities, investing in infrastructure, and modernizing state government online services to better serve rural, low-income citizens.
